The Ryobi vs. Ridgid debate has been a constant topic for woodworkers. But, instead of blaming the brands, why not consider which brand can bring more value to your DIY project?

Our team will review their products to find out what their differences are and then decide which product has the best variety.

Background And Quick History

Ryobi

Ryobi tools began with die-cast products as their humble beginnings. Although Ryobi Seisakusho Co., Ltd was established in 1943, they didn’t start manufacturing power tools until 1968.

According to industry experts, Ryobi’s breakthrough was when it acquired assets of Diehl Motor Company and became a Sears Craftsman supplier. The Ryobi brand has been the preferred choice for professionals and novices alike, up to today.

Ryobi products is not only a manufacturer of gardening equipment, but also offers power tools and offset printing presses.

Ridgid

Ridgid tools has extensive business experience, just like Craftsman and DeWalt. It’s no surprise that Ridgid tools continue to be a dominant force in the power tool market, having been established in Ohio in 1923.

Emerson Electric, their subsidiary in 1966, was the catalyst for Ridgid’s rise. It is a well-known manufacturer of high-quality tools such as Milwaukee. Ridgid products are still being innovated to tackle more difficult jobs for professionals.

What caught our attention most was the fact that Ryobi and this consumer brand were both part of the same parent company, TTI.

Features Of Ryobi & Ridgid

Manufacturing

Ryobi

Ryobi has a wider range of tools than the other brands, but Ryobi’s products are more affordable because they are made in China. This brand might not be right for you if you place a lot of value on a USA-made tool. It doesn’t mean that the tools are defective in workmanship.

Ridgid

Ridgid tools, despite being part of the same company as Ridgid, aren’t made in China. You can see from the purchase documentation that Ridgid cordless tools are manufactured in Elyria (Ohio). Even the smallest parts, such as batteries, aren’t outsourced.

Line Of Products

Ryobi is a brand that offers all the power tools DIYers could want. Ryobi’s product line is more comprehensive than many of its rivals, including stationary power tools and impact drivers as well as essential items such batteries and compressors.

Lawn and gardening

Ryobi lawn care products can be classified as entry-level. They are durable and last a long time, despite being lower in price.

Ridgid has similar power tools to Ryobi but is almost as varied as Ryobi. However, it offers more unique and less common options.

18V & Power Tools

This category includes at least thirty tools, such as tile saws, angle grinders, and cordless drills.

Ridgid is not only known for its extensive range of hand tools, but also Ridgid drill. This is the place to go if you need compact impact drivers or rotary hammers.

Utility and Electrician Tools

Handy electric tools are more prevalent in Ridgid product catalogs than Ryobi, from crimping tools to its knock-out combination kit.

Price

Ryobi offers an affordable entry-level tool range, making it more affordable than other brands. Ridgid power tools are more expensive so you will need to spend extra.

Warranty

Both brands offer a standard three-year warranty, while Ridgid offers a lifetime service contract. This agreement provides free service, parts and batteries for the life of your registration.

The Ryobi chainsaws allow you to replace defective parts, such as the driver blades or gears, as long as the terms of the lifetime service agreement and promotional program are met.
